Long after modern medicine stifled the use of any medicinal herbs, there are those who believe that the healing power of herbs, lives on. Contradicting many research studies, is the fact, that some herbs are used in the manufacture of today’s medicine, thereby cementing the notion, that medicinal herbs can be useful, in protecting and curing some illnesses.
In the early days, of modern medicine, a medicinal herb was tested on patients, to record it’s effects. If the result was positive, as well as repeatable, it was then prescribed for the particular illness, for which it had been used. If the results were singular and it’s effects could not be repeated, it’s use was discontinued and put on a list, of worthless theories. In retrospect, many herbalists believe, that requirements of the test, may have been slanted. As with some conventional medicines, they do not have the same effect, on every patient and they believe the test groupings, may have been too small, to accurately depict the benefit, of the medicinal herb.
While taking a medicinal herb, usually shows no sign, of ill effects, there are some natural herbs, that can cause problems in humans. Any medicinal herb should be taken with caution and only in prescribed dosages, given by a trained herbalist.
Herbs Have Centuries Of History On Their Side
It is commonly believed, that the Chinese were the first, to use any medicinal herb, for treating illnesses. However, it has been discovered, that ancient Greece and Egypt, counted the medicinal herb, as an important part of health care, centuries ago. Many of the herbs they used, are still being used, by naturalists around the world and many are also marketed, for the specific ailments, for which they have been used.
The use of medicinal herbs has been a cause of concern, for many professionals, citing a lack of control over their use, in over the counter products, sold in many drug stores and health stores. With no control over the production, of certain natural medications, the claim is, that mixing certain herbs and other natural products, may cause side effects, of which many are unaware.
Some of the medicinal herbs still used today, include red clover, which grows wild, in many parts of the world. It is claimed to have healing tendencies, for skin ailments, such as eczema and psoriasis, as well as chronic degenerative diseases and dry cough. Unfortunately, there is little information, concerning the proper dosage and application of the clover, to achieve the most benefits.
It is an indisputable fact, that the Chinese were among the first pioneers, in medicine. Apart from alternative treatments, like acupuncture, they used herbs extensively, for most ailments. Herbs have been used satisfactorily, for centuries. Modern man, particularly in the Western countries, has discovered that it is much quicker and far more profitable to condemn herbs and pump out toxins and chemicals in every shape, form, colour and size. In the good old days when doctors and pharmacists cared about the patient’s health, natural remedies were still prescribed.
Nowadays, when it is all about the money, drugs are easier and more profitable, to prescribe. We are also to blame. In the rush and pressures of modern society, we just don’t have the time to grow herb gardens and to mix potions for our family. We just cart them off to the doctor and force them to swallow pills, for this and for that. People living in more backward countries (if that is a fair statement, by our terms) do not have access to doctors and chemists, so they still practice ancient forms of natural remedies. They certainly seem healthier and stronger than us.
Why not find out more about natural remedies and get a herb garden going? You can even grow it in containers, or inside. There are thousands of plants that can treat just as many ailments. What is so amazing about herbal remedies is their close association to our modern medicines. Most of our current “wonder drugs” have a botanical connection. Sadly, many of those medicines contain much more than simple botanicals. Stuffed with chemicals, allergens and who knows what else, we are fast becoming a medicated society. If you are sick and tired of being over-medicated, you can take control and start a journey toward natural herbal remedies. After all, natural remedies served the human race very well before we became so smart! 47 Household Remedies is written just for you, the person who is sick and tired of being over-medicated.
