If you’re a gardener that has an unlimited supply of water, consider yourself lucky. There are many people, who live in drought zones where the garden and lawn watering rules, are very restrictive, to the healthy growth of gardens and plants. Many people just give up, when they find out how few gallons of water they are permitted to use, but some have found ways to cope, with less water. There are many ways to optimize ones garden, to conserve water, while still keeping it lush.
Did you know that the stinging nettle is actually a type of herb and has medicinal benefits? Many people grow herbs, for culinary purposes and some are aware of their medical properties, but the medical use of the stinging nettle, is not widely known about. If you have unexplained pains in your bodily joints (knees, hips, fingers, toes, neck) then you need to see a doctor. You might have arthritis. And, since arthritis is an umbrella term, for over one hundred kinds of illnesses and afflictions, you need an accurate diagnosis, as to what kind of arthritis you have. Many beginner greenhouse gardeners will probably want to start with a greenhouse gardening kit. Most of these kits feature polycarbonate, or plastic greenhouse panels, to construct the building. There are many styles of plastic greenhouses available, for every level of gardening experience and need. Kits are the best choice, in choosing a first plastic greenhouse. There are kits for small portable structures, small limited heat structures and larger, year round growing structures available.
As a rule, we choose to grow bush beans rather than pole beans. I cannot make up my mind whether, or not, this is from sheer laziness. In a city backyard, the tall varieties might perhaps be a problem, since it would be difficult to get poles. But these running beans can be trained along old fences and with a little urging, will run up the stalks of the tallest sunflowers. So that settles the pole question. There is an ornamental side, to the bean question. Suppose you plant these tall beans, at the extreme rear end of each vegetable row. Make arches with supple tree limbs, binding them over to form the arch. Train the beans over these. When one stands, facing the garden, what a beautiful terminus, these bean arches make.

Common Lawn Care Problems And What to Do About Them
For people who would like to do more gardening, but live in an area with a short growing season, a hobby greenhouse is the answer. A hobby greenhouse, is not large enough to produce vegetables, or flowers on a commercial basis, but it will give you a place, for a tomato plant, or two and some fresh greens, even if you live in the northern regions. Greenhouse enthusiasts even have their own association, called the Hobby Greenhouse Association, which publishes a quarterly magazine. The organization also sponsors events and helps individuals, to connect and to get help, with the aspect of gardening, that they are interested in, whether it’s growing cacti, or saving seeds.
Daphne, a reader from England, e-mailed me and shared her enthusiasm for a new hobby. She has started a wild flower garden.
