Some Handy Tips For Every Gardener And Homemaker

Here are a few secrets, to give your garden and home a quick and simple makeover. Use these clever tips, to give your garden a cheap and cheerful makeover, putting in less than 2 hours’ solid work! Every so often readers supply personal remedies and tips, so feel free to add yours.

1) Your garden.

* Banish mould stains from plastic garden furniture, with a mixture of bicarbonate of  soda and water. Make sure you leave the paste on for 2 minutes, then wipe it off, for a sparkling summer sheen.
* Remove winter rust, from furniture and tools, by mixing 2 tablespoons of  salt, with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture to the rust and rub hard.
* Fertilise your soil for free, by sprinkling a thick layer of old coffee grounds, on the soil surfaces, of your garden and potted plants. Coffee is high in nitrogen and other nutrients and it will decompose into an acid-forming nutrient force.
* Kick-start your flower growth, by placing banana skins and other fruit and vegetable waste, around the base of the plants.
* Slaughter stubborn weeds quickly, cheaply and safely, by blasting them with a mixture of gin and soap detergent. Don’t drink all the gin yourself!
* Slug-proof your plants, for the summer months, by smearing petroleum jelly on the rims of the flower pots. They don’t like the grease. You can also deter slugs, from attacking your summer vegetables, by scattering crushed eggshells - slugs hate to crawl on rough surfaces.
* Another tip from a reader, is from GMK. This is a natural pesticide. I have been using a raw onion and garlic mix to very good effect. Two full onions chopped and some pre chopped garlic - about 2 table spoons and left in the sun for a day. Sprayed on everything - it has worked wonders.

2) Your health

Are you living with a lifetime of toxins, inside of you? In the 21st Century, we live with dozens of poisons all around us. Recent studies have now proven that:

* The average glass of drinking water, could have thousands of carcinogens in it.
* Breast and stomach cancer, have been traced to chemical oestrogens, in our food.
* Early senility may actually be caused by environmental chemicals.
All of these toxins, and more, cause you to age faster.

3)  Your laundry.

* Yellowed linen: Prevent stored linen from turning yellow by placing it in between dark blue sheets of tissue paper.
* Washing caps: Wash dirty caps in the dishwasher for one cycle - they will come clean without losing their shape!
* Laundry basket freshener: Place a fabric softener refill in the bottom of your laundry basket. You can also simply sprinkle some baking soda at the bottom of your basket and that will help absorb the odours as well.
* Mothball alternative: A better idea than using mothballs is to take your leftover soap slivers and put them in a vented plastic bag. Place the bag with seasonal clothes before packing them away.
