If you have been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I’m a keen gardener, that much is obvious, as I run a website on gardening, but you will also know, that every now and then, I deviate to other relevant topics. As I’m a married woman, that automatically makes me a wife, mother, nursemaid, laundrymaid, housekeeper, cook, taxi, seamstress, and a lot more. As a mother and a churchgoer, I’d like to share this with you.
I have used items from our Church magazine before, but these items were in last week’s issue and they touched my heart. I’m sure they will touch your heart too. The first is a poem:
The Soul Of A Child
The soul of a child is the loveliest flower,
That grows in the garden of God.
It’s climb is from weakness to knowledge and power,
To the sky from the clay and clod.
To beauty and sweetness it grows under care,
Neglected it’s ragged and wild.
It’s a plant that is tender but wondrously rare,
The sweet wishful soul of a child.
Be tender O gardener and give it it’s share,
Of moisture of warmth and of light.
And let it not lack for painstaking care,
To protect it from frost and from blight.
A glad day will come when it’s bloom shall unfold,
It will seem that an angel has smiled.
Reflecting beauty and sweetness untold,
In the sensitive soul of a child.
Another story goes like this:
Someone describes packing his suitcase for a journey. Just before closing it, he observes a small corner, not yet filled.
He says: “Into this little corner, I put a guidebook, a lamp, a mirror, a microscope, a telescope, a volume of choice poems, several well written biographies, a pack of old letters, a book of songs, a sharp sword, a small library of more than 60 volumes, a book of romance, a book of war, a history book, a book of prophecy, a history of law, a shield and a comforter; yet strangely enough, all these items did not occupy a space of more than three inches long, by 2 inches wide.”
How did he do this?
Well, it was all in the packing. He put in his Bible!
