The Lucky Bamboo Is A Perfect Desktop Plant

If  you wish to place a nice green, indoor plant on your desk, or bedroom table, that only requires a minimum of care, then the Lucky Bamboo can be just what you are looking for. Despite the name, Lucky Bamboo is not really bamboo at all, they just look like bamboo and I don’t really think they are lucky.

Their requirements are minimal. All you need to do, is provide them with regular cleaning, change the water weekly and allow lots of light, but not direct sunlight. You don’t need to reproduce them, or feed them, or plant them, or weed around them, like traditional plants.

They are more closely related to Bonsai, than anything else and can give much joy to the owner.

Each month, the plant is to be removed from its pot, washed under a water jet, even the roots and placed back in the pot, with fresh water.

The plant has a green, segmented body ,of about half inch width, that normally grows vertically and produces one, or more additional stems with leaves. The stalk should be cut at the desired height and sealed with wax, just above one of the nodes. This will stop any further growth and it will be good for the plant’s development.

By manipulating the light source, or rotating the plant, the lucky bamboo can actually be trained to grow in a spiral.

In the Orient, lucky bamboos already tend to replace regular flower bouquets. This is because they are simple kept in any container that can hold water, their life is long and they have a lovely decorative quality.

Lucky bamboos are offered both individually, or in special arrangements. The number and the dimensions of the plants in the arrangement, is not haphazard as there are precise standards for each type of arrangement.

The height and number of sections of the stalk have specific meanings, in the East. The meanings are as follows:

three stairs bring happiness, health and a long life
five stairs stimulate the 5 elements of life
six stairs bring health
eight stairs bring development and prosperity
ten stairs symbolize perfection and fulfillment
twenty one stairs bring a powerful blessing

So if you want to get one, either for home, or the office, or if you want to make a meaningful present, lucky bamboos are a good option. Everyone loves them and they are better than some flowers, that will die off  in a few days. Lucky bamboos last out for months and are easy to please.

Growing bonsai is a very popular hobby nowadays. When you grow bonsai trees, they are technically trees because all the attributes of a real tree is present. However, a bonsai does not grow sturdy and tall as any other tree.
