Pruning Grafting Budding Fruit Trees

Saturday 23 February 2008 @ 7:04 am

What do the terms grafting and budding mean? Budding is a form of grafting. Grafting is the art of attaching a piece of one plant, to another plant, creating a new plant. Grafting is usually done because the desired plant is extremely difficult, if not impossible to propagate, through other means. Dogwoods, for example, are easily grown from seed, however, it is next to impossible, to grow a Pink Dogwood from seed. The seeds from a Pink Dogwood will produce seedlings, that are likely to flower white.

How To Germinate Seeds Hydroponically

Thursday 21 February 2008 @ 6:57 am

Hydroponic germination of seeds, has several advantages, over using soil. Many common diseases can be avoided, because the hydroponic medium is clean, while soil may contain fungus, or insects that can harm vulnerable seedlings. Root rot can also be avoided, by using a good hydroponic growing system. The area where hydroponic growing really shines, over using soil, is control of the growing environment. With hydroponics, the gardener is no longer at the mercy of the soil’s nutrient, or water content. Every aspect of the plant’s growing conditions, can be controlled by the grower, not Mother Nature. This can be a tremendous advantage for young seedlings, because they will get the proper nutrients, right from the start of their life, leading to much healthier plants, in the long run.

How To Start A Vegetable Garden

Saturday 16 February 2008 @ 6:39 am

In deciding on the site, for the home vegetable garden, it is good to dispose once and for all, of the old idea, that the garden “patch” must be an ugly spot in the home surroundings. If thoughtfully planned, carefully planted and thoroughly cared for, it may be made a beautiful and harmonious feature of the general scheme, lending a touch of comfortable homeliness, that no shrubs, borders, or beds can ever produce.

How To Combat Worms In Your Fruit

Wednesday 13 February 2008 @ 6:32 am

Having a steady supply of fresh fruit, from your backyard, is quite a nice thing. Many people strive to attain this dream. However, many people fail to realize just how easy it is to obtain a fairly serious infestation of worms, in their fruit. Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 7:29 am

If you are lucky enough to have some fruit trees, like a cherry tree, in your yard, I am sure I don’t need to tell you, how much enjoyment can come from them. Just eating the delicious fruit, that spawned from your tree, is a rewarding experience in itself. Looking out your back window and seeing a magnificent, glorious cherry tree, is also rewarding. Most people are impressed, just by the fact that you have a cherry tree, because they are usually thought of, by non-gardeners, as some sort of exotic plant.

One of the most frustrating things, that can possibly happen, to someone who has slaved for hours and hours, to grow a fruit tree, is the unexplainable barrenness that can sometimes occur, when there should be a plethora of fresh fruit.
