We have received requests, from several of our readers, who would like to know more about affiliate marketing. Not just the usual overview, as is so common, but some facts, to help them decide which to pursue.

New marketers ask questions, such as: Where is all the help I’m supposed to get? I have been buying e-zine and classified ad builders and signing up for E-checks and Virtual credit cards, but in the meantime, I have no business and no ads set up yet. When does all this happen? Let’s go here, let’s go there. I spent all day on chasing my tail. I’m running out of time and getting nowhere.

This is the content of an actual email, that hit my inbox this week. Not only did I not know this person, from a bar of soap, but this was the first and only email I had ever received from him and to this day, I still have no idea, what he’s talking about. Presumably, she signed up for one of the affiliate programs I promote, from my site and was asking, in his own inimitable style, for my help.

Maybe he got hold of the wrong person, but, this just highlights the plight of many an affiliate marketer, who is left confused and bewildered, by a program that doesn’t deliver on all its promises. Although I am always ready and willing to help anyone I can, this is most definitely not the way to go about asking for it. Especially, when I’m not involved and don’t know what he’s talking about. Obviously the program has left him confused and feeling helpless. So, make sure you choose the right program and ensure that you are able to contact them for help, when you need it.

The attitude displayed in this person’s email to me, and he is by no means an isolated example, exemplifies why so many people fail to make a success of their online businesses. Leaving aside the utter rudeness of the approach, notice the impatience, the expectation to be up and running in a day, the hurry, the apparent belief that real world principles, such as courtesy and good manners, don’t apply online. Well, they do. Do you think this person is going to last the distance? Do you think he will be successful? What kind of tactics do you think he is capable of resorting to, in the pursuit of the almighty dollar?
